Resolving ties on points (2022 below - 2023 will be posted after wildcard draw)

These rules are invoked when there are a ties on points in a section for which there are BAYS Playoffs - these are not for President's Cup nor Section Championship T-Shirts.  The order tied teams are shown on the BAYS Website is irrelevant as the BAYS website does not calculate tiebreakers.  In general if there are ties for first place, the tie is broken on the field.  Each following section describes the details for resolving who goes into the playoffs or MTOC and claims which seed where seeded playoffs are scheduled.

STD -

Standard tiebreaker where one team from the section goes to the playoffs or MTOC.

  • Two teams tied for first place with equal number of points - single tiebreaker game determines who claims the seed from the section
  • Three teams tied for first place with equal number of points.  Tiebreakers rank the teams from 1 to 3.  Team 2 and 3 play a single game with the winner playing team 1 for the seed from the section.
  • Four teams tied for first place with equal number of points.  Tiebreakers rank the teams from 1 to 4.  Team 1 plays team 4 and team 2 plays team 3.  The winners play and the winner of that claims the seed from the section.

2NWC -

This tiebreaker is where two teams are taken from a section to be placed in the playoffs.

  • Two teams tied for first place with equal number of points - Tiebreakers are used to rank teams.  Higher ranked team takes higher seed and lower ranked team takes lower seed.
  • Three teams tied for first place with equal number of points.  Tiebreakers rank the teams from 1 to 3.  Team 1 takes the higher seed.  Team 2 and 3 play a single game with the winner taking the lower seed.
  • Four teams tied for first place with equal number of points.  Tiebreakers rank the teams from 1 to 4.  Team 1 plays team 4 and team 2 plays team 3.  The higher surviving seed takes the higher seed (e.g. if team 2 and team 4 win the playoff games, team 2 takes the higher seed) and the lower surviving seed takes the lower seed.
  • There is an outright winner and a tie on points between any number of teams for second place.  The outright winner takes the higher seed.  Tiebreakers rank the second place teams and the highest ranked team takes the second seed.  No games needed.

2WC -

This tiebreaker is where two teams are taken from a section to be placed in MTOC when BAYS has a wildcard.

  • Two teams tied for first place with equal number of points - Tiebreakers are used to rank teams.  Higher ranked team takes regular slot and lower ranked team takes wildcard.
  • Three teams tied for first place with equal number of points.  Tiebreakers rank the teams from 1 to 3.  Team 1 takes the regular slot .  Team 2 and 3 play a single game with the winner taking the wildcard.
  • Four teams tied for first place with equal number of points.  Tiebreakers rank the teams from 1 to 4.  Team 1 plays team 4 and team 2 plays team 3.  The higher surviving seed takes the regular slot (e.g. if team 2 and team 4 win the playoff games, team 2 takes the higher seed) and the lower surviving seed takes the wildcard.
  • There is an outright winner and a tie on points between any number of teams for second place.  The outright winner takes the regular slot.  Tiebreakers rank the second place teams and the highest ranked team takes the wildcard.  No games needed.

* Girls Gr11 D1 -

There is only one team (Walpole D1) in Girls Grade 11 D1.  If the team is .500 or above they will go to MTOC.  If not, a Grade 11 D2 team will take the slot

** Girls Gr11 D2 -

There is a team in Girls Grade 12 D2 (Parkway/West Roxbury) that will play the winner of Girls Grade 11 D2 Section A.

  • Two teams tied for first place with equal number of points - single tiebreaker game determines who claims the seed from the section and the winner plays Parkway/West Roxbury for the MTOC slot
  • Three teams tied for first place with equal number of points.  Tiebreakers rank the teams from 1 to 3.  Team 2 and 3 play a single game with the winner playing team 1 for the seed from the section which then plays Parkway/West Roxbury for the MTOC slot.
  • Four teams tied for first place with equal number of points.  Tiebreakers rank the teams from 1 to 4.  Team 1 plays team 4 and team 2 plays team 3.  The winners play and the winner of that claims the seed from the section which then plays Parkway/West Roxbury for the MTOC slot.

*** Girls Gr12 D2 -

In Girls Grade 12 Div 2 Section A there are 8 teams - 4 are Division 1 teams, 3 are division 2 teams and one is a Grade 11 team (Parkway/West Roxbury).  The playoffs are the first place D1 team versus the second place D1 team.  The point total used for these four D1 teams is the result of all games played in the division.

  • If two D1 teams tied at the top of the D1 teams, tiebreakers rank the teams with the higher ranking team becoming the home team (games will be at a neutral site)
  • If three D1 teams tied at the top of the D1 teams, tiebreakers rank the teams with highest ranking team entering the playoffs and the two lower teams play with the winner taking the lower seed in the playoffs.
  • If all four D1 teams tied on points, tiebreakers rank the teams from 1 to 4 with team 1 playing team 4 and team 2 playing team 3.  The winners play in the playoffs with the winner going to MTOC.
  • There is an outright winner among the D1 teams and a tie on points between any number of teams for second place.  The outright winner enters the playoffs and plays the highest ranking via tiebreakers of the second place teams with the winner taking the MTOC slot.
